Since 2021, when support first began for five South Sudanese medical students covering their tuition and living expenses, the number of Lee Tae Seok Scholarship recipients has grown significantly to over 50 students in just a few years. All of them are either former students of Father Lee Tae Seok or have had a personal connection to him.

In order to carry on Father Lee’s vision and ensure he is remembered as a symbol of hope in South Sudan, students are selected for the scholarship and provided with tuition and living support.

The scholarship recipients are deeply grateful. Many come from financially difficult backgrounds and, with few job opportunities, struggle every new semester to secure tuition and daily living costs.

Most have nowhere else to turn for help. As a result, many students are forced to take a leave of absence or drop out entirely.

Among the 50+ Lee Tae Seok Scholars, 35 are medical students, making up the largest group. To also give opportunities to those studying in fields like journalism, architecture, computer science, and agriculture, additional students have been selected.​
